The group of companies ‘Spetstyazhavtotrans’ carries out a project on delivering 8 steam generators “ПГВ-1000» to Saint Petersburg. When delivered, the cargo will leave Russia’s ‘Northern Capital’ for the atomic station “Belene” in Bulgaria.

The first phase of the project consists of transporting and warehousing the generators at a temporary holding area in Serpuckhov.

The generators were built by “ЗиО – Подольск», they weigh 320 tons and are considered a heavy cargo. Transporting these ‘giants’ by roads is expensive and impractical, so the generators are being delivered to Serpuckhow by a 500-ton railroad transporter.

“We use a hydraulic lift, “SBL”, to load the generators into the modular transporter Cometto. Then the transporter moves the generators to the technological dock. Finally, the barge will take the cargo from here to Saint Peterburg,” said Sergei Baranchuk, the project director. “This is a truly subtile art: a tiny platform, a heavy cargo and failure is not ever an option. Here, every task is approached with the most careful consideration, so it takes us two days to fully unload one steam generator.”

Two generators have been already moved to the dock – now they are ready to be shipped. As soon as all six remaining steam generators are delivered to the dock, the group of companies ‘Spetstyazhavtotrans’ is commencing the project’s second phase – ferrying the generators to Saint Petersburg on the Oka River
